TransAlentejo Team

The great challenge of the TransAlentejo Walking Trails Network is to involve as many territorial agents as possible in the structuring, maintenance, development of tourist products, brand activation, promotion and marketing support. This is a challenge in permanent construction.

This collective participation strategy is innovative in the creation and development of tourism products in Portugal and it was Alentejo that implemented it.

The creation of the TransAlentejo Team, with tourism technicians from all municipalities, parish councils, animation companies, local associations and local tourism guides, allows us to bring together very diverse and complementary skills and availability.

The reality is that it is not an easy task, but it is highly differentiating in creating a robust and winning tourism product.

Since the first phase of the project in 2014, in the TransAlentejo Alqueva Network, municipal technicians associated with the development of the tourist product were involved. Interestingly, at the time, the technical skills of those involved were varied, which on the one hand created difficulties in involvement in the project, but on the other brought knowledge from different fields of professional activity.

In the global structuring phase of the TransAlentejo Walking Trails Network, there was the engagement of municipal technicians from all municipalities, in an absolutely dedicated and unprecedented way, with the involvement of 47 municipalities of Alentejo.

The organization of the TransAlentejo Walking Festival is the high point of collective mobilization, with coordination being carried out for an organization and responsibilities spread throughout the territory.

Despite the enormous and open dedication of tourism technicians and other skills at municipal level, it was found that the tourist product of Walking Tours and the management of the respective networks had different degrees of knowledge in the various locations.

Throughout the festival, it was proven that it is an evolutionary, cooperative and winning process and Turismo do Alentejo ERT considered that it was necessary to implement a line of training for the destination, including awareness-raising actions followed by training actions for the territory .

The territory was actively and dynamically involved in the TransAlentejo Network, which is why in 2022 six training and information actions were carried out for mayors and municipal tourism technicians, presented by the president Vitor Silva of Turismo do Alentejo ERT and by José Pedro Calheiros, coordinator of the TransAlentejo Walking Festival.

In 2023, training actions began under the +Próxima Training Program of Turismo de Portugal, with the Portalegre Hotel and Tourism School and Turismo do Alentejo ERT, with the theme of Organization and Management of Walking Tours, in order to train technicians municipalities, tourism professionals and local guides to organize hiking events in the TransAlentejo Network.

In 2023, three actions were carried out, in Alvito, Arraiolos and Sousel, and, in 2024, four actions, in Barrancos, Alandroal, Aljustrel and Arronches. The seven actions were taught by José Pedro Calheiros, as trainer and coacher.
The training program will continue in 2025.
